rue21 partners with a non-profit organization in hopes to empower women recovering from eating disorders

WARRENDALE, Pa. (April 24, 2018) – rue21, a leading fast fashion apparel retailer, is partnering with The Garment Project, a non-profit organization that aims to empower women recovering from eating disorders by providing them with new, size-less clothing, individualized for their healthy bodies and lifestyles.

At least 20 million women and 10 million men in America will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives. However, only one in 10 people receive treatment.

“After recovering from my eating disorder, I found trying on clothes to be overwhelming and it brought a lot of negative thoughts when I discovered my new size,” said Erin, co-founder of The Garment Project. “I knew I couldn’t be alone, so we created The Garment Project.”

Apart of rue21’s rue gives back initiative, staff members have been invited to volunteer for this non-profit on April 25. Staff will be removing size tags and steaming donated rue21 product, styling outfits, and photographing.

“rue21 is all about being true to one’s individual style,” said Dirk Armstrong, chief operating officer. “We want our girl to feel comfortable and confident in her body. rue21 is so proud to partner with The Garment Project and to make a difference in many people’s lives.”
